The Hits Collection, Vol. One (Deluxe Edition) – Jay-ZView More By Jay-Z Our ReviewFrom his humble beginnings, Jay-Z has built an empire that rivals that of nearly any other hip-hop artist before or since. Besides his own record label and married bliss with Beyoncé, he is involved in a vast array of profitable business ventures, including professional sports, fashion, real estate, and nightclubs. Musically, he has sold over 50 million albums, holds the record for most number one solo records on Billboard, and has won 10 GRAMMY®s. With so many smash singles under his belt, it's hard to believe it's taken so long for an official hits collection, but here it is. This 15-track compilation includes most of his huge commercial anthems, such as his big breakthrough, the Annie-sampling "Hard Knock Life" and guaranteed party starter "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)," as well as the Neptunes-produced "I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)" and Rick Rubin throwback banger "99 Problems." Unfortunately, there's nothing here from his debut (and arguably best) album Reasonable Doubt, but hopefully that will be remedied on a forthcoming Vol. Two.. Customer ReviewsI LOL'ed (1 star)Not a single song from Reasonable Doubt? And this many songs from The Blueprint 3? It's like they took all the songs that Jay-Z fans skip over, and put them on the same album. Keep out the best albums? (3 stars) He has one number one single in his almost 20 year career, and thats because Alicia Keys sang a great hook. What hits are we talking about? Alot of solid songs, but lets call it Jay-Z's collection of decent rap, not hits. Probably the most overrated rapper of all time. Managed to stay in the media spotlight because of Beyonce, and that has helped him sell. BiographyBorn: December 04, 1969 in Brooklyn, NYGenre: Hip Hop/Rap Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Embodying the rags-to-riches rap dream, Jay-Z pulled himself up by his bootstraps as a youth to eventually become the reigning rapper of New York City and, in turn, a major-label executive following his short-lived retirement from music-making. In the wake of his 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt, Jay-Z's albums sold millions upon millions with each release, and his endless parade of hits made him omnipresent on urban radio and video television. He retained a strongly devoted fan base and challenged whatever...
