Biography

An independent neo-soul artist from Rahway, NJ, Eric Roberson was originally signed to Warner Bros., having released his single “The Moon” on the major label in 1994. An album was recorded for the label but it was never released, so Roberson returned to Howard University on a musical theater scholarship. After graduating, he came back to music in 2001 with the independently released album The Esoteric Movement. A year later he joined DJ Jazzy Jeff’s A Touch of Jazz production company, kicking off the relationship with a guest shot on Jeff’s album The Magnificent. A songwriting deal with EMI Publishing found him working with the likes of Musiq (Soulchild) and Jill Scott; then in 2005 his second official solo album, The Appetizer, arrived. In 2007 ...Left landed on Roberson’s own Blue Erro Soul imprint, with the album Music Fan First following two years later. Two tracks from the latter album would receive Grammy nominations, with “A Tale of Two” competing for Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2010 and “Still” competing for the same award in 2011. .
