Our Review

Jason Mraz's third long player is more Michael Jackson than Jack Johnson this time around. "Make It Mine" introduces the album with a blue-eyed, soul-touched pop that sounds like Mraz has been blasting Off The Wall while en route to the beach. Fittingly, the beachy Colbie Callat duets on "Lucky" (a romantic ditty about falling for a best friend). The playfully perverted "Butterfly" floats with a lofty horn section and a Hall & Oates inspired strut as Mraz gets his seductive lyrics on before somehow pulling off a gutsy scat-singing solo that would make Jamiroquai's Jay Kay blush. Mraz picks up his almost forgotten acoustic guitar on the mellow "Live High" which sounds a bit like Josh Rouse with a groove. The rootsy and cutesy "I'm Yours" is an obvious choice for first single with it's reggae rhythms, doo-wop harmonies, electric jazz piano, and lyrics endearing enough to theme a high school prom, and then there's the all too perfect waltzing "Beautiful Mess" which could have been written for the sole purpose of slow dancing in a rented tux. Ten of the twelve bonus tracks are stripped-down versions of songs on the album.

Wow. I mean...wow. (5 stars)
I knew this album was going to be great before I bought it; the EPs were exciting and beautiful, and the prospect of the stripped versions' studio counterparts made the wait for May 13th unbearable. Nothing could have prepared me for this album, though. Through his brilliant rhythmic rhymes, lush melodies, and gorgeous orchestrations, Mr. A-Z dazzles throughout, leaving skeptic and enthusiast speechless and pining for more. The live sessi

ALBUM OF THE YEAR (5 stars)
This album is a perfect evolution of Jason's talent. There is something on here that everybody can enjoy. His guest artists, Colbie Caillat and James Morrison, fit wonderfully in both "Lucky" and "Details In the Fabric", which is rare since most guest artists today are for radio attention only. "Coyotes" and "The Dynamo of Volition" include his musically new strides, but Jason does not come up short. &

EXCELLENT, Original, a New Sound from Jason (5 stars)
What I love about jason is that each album he comes out with has a new feel to it. This one loses some of the pop-y beats from Mr. A-Z, brings back his from soulful, powerful melodies like those in Waiting for My Rocket, and adds some great unique instrumentation not found in any of his music yet. FABULOUS album. I definately recommend this full version with the EP's as they are WONDERFUL, sometimes better than the studio versions, dependin

Jason Mraz hails from Mechanicsville, Virginia, where the singer/songwriter grew up amidst the sounds of the Dave Matthews Band and local roots musicians the Agents of Good Roots. However, it was Mraz's interest and participation in musical theater that served as his first introduction to music. Following high school, he moved to New York to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, but dropped out a year later when he took up the guitar and began to focus on songwriting....
