The swedes (5 stars) If you like good ole Swedish black metal like dissection, bathory, diabolical masquerade, etc... Then you will like the sound of that new watain song... I've heard the album is a little different than lawless darkness, sworn to the dark, and their older stuff, but I'm still stoked to see how they've evolved. Go Sweden! Go black metal! And more heavy metal gawd- dammit! Their most ambitious release yet... (5 stars) Watain take their sound to new heights on this record. I normally write much lengthier reviews but I guess if you're planning on picking it up digitally you don't need to read about the significance of the artwork or the overall concept. I strongly advise you to listen to the album beginning to end. It might sound a bit awkward otherwise. By far one of the greatest release this year next to Tribulation's "The Formulas of Death." BiographyFormed: 1998 in Uppsala, SwedenGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s Black metal outfit Watain emerged from Uppsala, Sweden, in 1998, quickly gaining underground credibility with an uncompromising 7" release entitled The Essence of Black Purity, then solidifying their commitment to the dark metal arts via 2000's thematically shocking (i.e., frequent odes to Satan and his pals) but instrumentally accomplished Rabid Death's Curse album.
