The Incredible Machine (Deluxe Edition) [Deluxe Edition] – SugarlandView More By Sugarland Our ReviewSugarland are master storytellers. Set to Kristian Bush’s nimble guitar-strumming, frontwoman Jennifer Nettles spins American fables about “other” women, struggling small towns, and daughters down on their luck. With her gutsy, beam-busting pipes and earthy charisma, Nettles can imbue even the most infectious contemporary country songs with oil tankers full of meaning. Sugarland’s fourth album marks the duo’s departure from country. Though The Incredible Machine is devoid of Nashville twang, Music City’s polished production is firmly intact and the songs are still catchy. “All We Are” aspires to anthemic proportions, sounding like Heart combined forces with U2 as Nettles’ powerful vocals wail soulfully over contemporary stadium-rock trimmed with electronic flourishes and gang-vocals. The title-track takes cues from Tears For Fears and Simple Minds, begging to accompany a remake of The Breakfast Club. “Stuck Like Glue” retains a sliver of Americana instrumentation until morphing into a reggae rap that somehow works.. BUY IT YOU NEED TO OWN IT!! SUGARLAND IS AN INCREDIBLE MACHINE!!!!! LIKE IF YOU AGREE!!! Don (1 star) I have no idea what most of these reviewers are talking about. This is by far the worst Sugarland album to date. I am a huge Jennifer Nettles fan, but this is pitiful. I got up early this morning to buy this. I have listened to it, hoping the songs would grow on me, but there is no substance to these songs. What direction was Jennifer trying to go with this album? Pop maybe? Whatever she was aiming for, she missed. Unless she wanted Take your time (4 stars) What happen to artist taking their time constructing albums? There are a few really good songs but overall not their best effort. I really like Sugarland and I know they will come back strong with their next one. My pick for new artist to check out is Tyler Barham and his song 17 and Young. Lead singer and songwriter Jennifer Nettles had previously fronted Soul Miner's Daughter, and her gospel background and deep soul approach to country music made her an ideal frontperson for the trio.
