The Definitive Rod Stewart (Deluxe Version) – Rod StewartView More By Rod Stewart Our ReviewOver five decades, Rod Stewart has amassed an impressive repertoire that encompasses a variety of musical styles rooted in his own folk-blues based beginnings. This collection is a generous, if not comprehensive, introduction to the man’s work. His early hits, “Maggie May,” “Every Picture Tells a Story,” and work with the Faces (“Stay With Me”) are included but much is left unexplored from Stewart’s most formidable period in favor of his more commercially successful moments featuring his more relaxed style. “Tonight’s the Night,” the brilliant “I Was Only Joking,” the silly “Hot Legs” and “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?,” and the underrated rhythmic pummel of “Young Turks” lead right into Stewart’s unexpected cruise through the ‘80s. “Some Guys Have All the Luck,” Tom Waits’ “Downtown Train,” Danny Whitten’s “I Don’t Want to Talk About It,” the Isley Brothers’ “This Old Heart of Mine” and Stewart’s own “Forever Young” are among his strongest cuts of the era. By the time he got to MTV’s Unplugged…And Seated, revisiting Tim Hardin’s “Reason to Believe” and Van Morrison’s “Have I Told You Lately,” Stewart was an elder statesmen recollecting his past.. Customer ReviewsNo Gasoline Alley ? (4 stars)This is a great collection, but to include some of the tracks that are included here while leaving out Gasoline Alley makes no sense at all. And why are four tracks album only when they are available individually on other lp's ? How many is this now? (3 stars) Guy's probably got as many compilations as actual studio albums. Don't Bother!!! (1 star) This collection is NOT remastered. Don't waste your money. Stick with the Storyteller box set. BiographyBorn: January 10, 1945 in London, EnglandGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Rod Stewart may have begun his career as a respected singer, yet that critical respect eroded as he got older, as he became more concerned with stardom and adult contemporary songcraft than the rock music that launched him. While he has recorded some terrible albums — and he would admit that freely — Stewart was once rock & roll's best interpretive singer as well as an accomplished songwriter, creating a raw combination of folk, rock, blues, and country that sounded like no other...
