Rarities Edition: Weezer – WeezerView More By Weezer Our ReviewRivers Cuomo brought a strong pop core to his hard-rock (did someone say alternative?) sound. Weezer’s debut album in 1994 helped bolster the alternative rock revolution past the Nirvana age with incredibly catchy tunes (and videos) such as “Buddy Holly,” “Undone — The Sweater Song” and “Say It Ain’t So.” Album tracks such as “My Name Is Jonas” and “No One Else” made for tough, leather-jacketed pop-rock from start to finish. The songwriting was top-notch and the meticulous production from the Cars’ Ric Ocasek was spot-on. The 2010 “Rarities” edition features the fourteen bonus cuts from the “Deluxe Edition” that include demos, outtakes and b-sides every bit as compelling as the original album. “Jamie” appears in full studio form and as a live acoustic track. An alternate live version of “My Name Is Jonas” kicks up real fury, while the live take of “Surf Wax America” shines with rushed and ragged harmonies. Acoustic demos of “Undone — The Sweater Song” and “No One Else” fill out this collection of fascinating alternate takes.. Customer ReviewsMessage to Mr Obvi (5 stars)Some of us "true" Weezer fans bought the blue album way before a deluxe edition was ever conceived. If you fall in that category, then this is a good deal for you. Trying to pull a fast one? (5 stars) I love weezer to death, but I hope you guys realize this is just the 2nd half of the Deluxe edition of the blue album. If you're a true fan you should already have this, if not, shame on you. I mean the songs are great don't get me wrong, but I'm sure you can get more for a better price. Cheaper Price (5 stars) This is just the second half of the deluxe edition of the Blue album, but still it's cheaper than buying the $25 deluxe edition (which it was at my local CD store) if you already have the original blue album. BiographyFormed: 1993 in Los Angeles, CAGenre: Alternative Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s As one of the most popular groups to emerge in the post-grunge alternative rock aftermath, Weezer received equal amounts of criticism and praise for their hook-heavy guitar pop. Drawing from the heavy power pop of arena rockers like Cheap Trick and the angular guitar leads of the Pixies, Weezer leavened their melodies with doses of '70s metal learned from bands like Kiss. What truly set the band apart, though, was their geekiness. None of the members of Weezer, especially leader Rivers Cuomo, were...
