Plastic Ono Band (Remastered) – John LennonView More By John Lennon Our ReviewOnly an artist of John Lennon’s stature and caliber could pull off such an intensely personal and probing collection of songs and still be universal. It was 1970. The Beatles were finished. Lennon’s marriage to Yoko Ono resulted in several avant-garde recordings and an intense amount of self-analysis (culminating with participation in Dr. Arthur Janov’s controversial primal scream therapy). Lennon’s first proper solo album starts at this vantage point. The arrangements are stripped to their essentials. Band tracks center on either Lennon’s electric guitar or piano, with only Klaus Voorman’s bass and Ringo Starr’s drums for backing. Lennon’s only concession to performance is his insistence on double-tracking many of his vocals; all else is raw. From the funeral bell that opens “Mother” (which climaxes with Lennon’s scream), the scathing acoustic ballad “Working Class Hero,” the womblike romantic paean of “Love,” and the bitter indictments of “I Found Out” and “Well, Well, Well” to the finality of Lennon’s purpose statement “God” (where he puts the last nail in The Beatles’ coffin), Plastic Ono Band is one of the most chilling, riveting, and personal albums ever made.. Customer Reviewsawesome. (5 stars)if you only own one john lennon record, this is the one to own. one of the greatest albums ever made. period. Like a step backwards quality-wise... (2 stars) This 2 star rating is for the sound quality of this remaster, not the album itself. Many of these songs (most notably Working Class Hero) sound as if there is a pillow over my speakers. Wheras my old remasters of this album sounded as if John was right next to me playing. None of these songs sound improved in any fashion, and Yoko should have just stuck to the 2004 remastered versions and just re-released John's catalogue. In short, Don (1 star) Hissing sounds through out the album. Bell sounds at beginning of Mother sound BAD! First few chords of "Hold On" were cut off! Piano sounds dubbed down, bass sounds dubbed down. Johns voice is cleaned up and more prominent, which is great but not at the cost of ruining the over all music sound. If you want a bad sounding version of one of the best albums ever made then go buy a used $1.00 vinyl copy. Otherwise don't waste your mon BiographyBorn: October 09, 1940 in Liverpool, EnglandGenre: Rock Years Active: '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s Out of all the Beatles, John Lennon had the most interesting — and frustrating — solo career. Lennon was capable of inspired, brutally honest confessional songwriting and melodic songcraft; he also had a tendency to rest on his laurels, churning out straight-ahead rock & roll without much care. But the extremes, both in his music and his life, were what made him fascinating. Where Paul McCartney was content to be a rock star, Lennon dabbled in everything from revolutionary politics...
