Foo Fighters: Greatest Hits (Deluxe Edition) – Foo FightersView More By Foo Fighters Our ReviewKurt Cobain’s death signaled the end for Nirvana. No one expected its drummer, Dave Grohl, to leave his kit behind and front one of the most successful hard rock groups of the next decade. Yet that’s exactly what happened. Grohl’s pop sense has proven strong, drawing from the heavy but hummable roots of the Descendents and Hüsker Dü and taking them to modern rock heights. His strong sense of humor, evident in the band’s videos, pushes aside the dark, mournful tones of grunge for the evergreen pop hooks of “Everlong,” “My Hero,” “Learn to Fly” and “The Pretender.” Foo Fighters began as a solo project (“This Is a Call,” “Big Me”) with a self-titled debut album recorded at home with Grohl as its only member. Other members were signed up in order to pull off live shows and Grohl has never looked back. This retrospective includes two new cuts, the Tom Petty Americana of “Wheels” (Grohl played drums for Petty’s Heartbreakers) and the acoustic-to-electric anthem power of “Word Forward,” plus an acoustic version of “Everlong.”. Everyone already knows the single Wheels but listen to Word Forward. Like every other awsome Foo Fighter song it begins softly and builds into something great. They have written so many amazing songs throughout their carrier and the only thing wrong with this Cd is that it isnt big enough to hold mor Greatest Hits... Are these guys finally getting old? I remember Dave saying in an interview that they had avoided doing this because it usually marks the twilight of a band's career... Who knows? They are still one of the greats and every track that is on this album deserves to be, and the live performances really stand out. "All my Life" really is my EPIC (5 stars) Foo Fighters have thrown together all of their best songs for a journey down their 15 years as one of the most famous rock bands around. Prepared to be blown away if you buy. BiographyFormed: 1995 in Seattle, WAGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s During the last dark days of Nirvana in 1994, tapes of Dave Grohl's solo demos circulated among alt-rock royalty. Greg Dulli commented positively about them in more than one place, but few suspected that these homemade tapes would launch one of the biggest modern rock bands of the post-grunge era. As it turns out, that’s exactly what Grohl’s Foo Fighters became, perhaps the one band of the alt-rock revolution to enjoy continual success on the charts and on the road without a dip in popularity. It...
