Flavors of Entanglement – Alanis MorissetteView More By Alanis Morissette Our ReviewThe albums from the woman who became a superstar with “You Oughta Know” have become intense confessionals where it’s more like a matter of you have to know. Morissette’s psyche twists and turns like her murderous grammar, making for uncomfortably personal yet riveting listening. “Straitjacket” works as a dressing down of an inattentive lover (“Talking with you’s like talking to a sieve that can’t hear me”) except Morissette’s the one who ends up losing her grip. Producer and co-writer Guy Sigsworth, noted for his work with Bjork, window dresses these tunes with extra beats, strings (“Torch”), tabla (“Citizens of the World”), and vocal manipulations, transforming Morissette’s delivery into a transmission from outer space. This otherworldly charm sweetens “Giggling Again for No Reason,” one of the album’s pure expressions of momentary joy. Elsewhere, it’s a frightening amount of stress for one woman, from “Moratorium,” where she declares, “I declare a moratorium on things relationship,” to “Tapes,” which recounts the unsteady voices in her head. The album plays as much as a therapy session as a piece of music. Intriguing to say the least.. Customer ReviewsAlanis's Flavors (5 stars)I was so excited to hear Alanis was coming out with a new album. I waited patiently. We all knew it was coming. She split with her fiance, Ryan Reynolds. Oh the heartbreak. Writing must be coming soon. We all missed Alanis. It'd been 4 years since So-Called Chaos was released. And it confused us all. Where was her temper? The rage? Oh, she was in love then. With Mr. Reynolds. So that album focused on the love. So this one must be opposite, y The Evolution of Alanis . . . (5 stars) After 4 years of absence, Alanis returns with a surprisingly good album. I have been waiting for this album to come out since last September. I have to say that i'm impressed with 'Flavors'. Alanis tackles a new sound with the help with Guy Sigsworth (responsible for Madonna's 'What it feels like for a Girl'). Despite the new sound like in 'Straitjacket', Alanis still retains her classic style such as on 'Not as We'. BiographyBorn: June 01, 1974 in Ottawa, Ontario, CanadaGenre: Pop Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s Alanis Morissette was one of the most unlikely stars of the mid-'90s. A former child actress turned dance-pop diva, Morissette later transformed herself into a confessional alternative singer/songwriter in the vein of Liz Phair and Tori Amos. However, she bolstered that formula with enough pop sensibility, slight...
