Another treat from Mike Doughty and friends (5 stars) A free-wheeling, innovative, forward-learning, highly-collaborative, often brilliantly imaginative album. That it’s not “not for everybody” means it’s actually for somebody. Mike cuts loose entirely on verbal games and lyricism and each track seems to be co-written, not only featuring another musician. There’s a real sense of joy that comes through here. The joy in creation, and the joy of throwing caution to the wind and Oh wow. (5 stars) My first impression was similar to another reviewer's, of uninhibited brains, happiness, creativity, and freedom. FINALLY. My first encounter with his music was on Haughty Melodic, and while I’ve enjoyed it and his subsequent releases, it just felt like he was holding back, like there was something keeping him from taking great ideas and making them brilliant.
