Semi Precious Weapons
Biography
Semi Precious Weapons make flamboyant, high-energy rock influenced by both '70s glitter rock and '80s dance-punk. Formed in New York City in 2006, the band originally featured fellow Berklee College of Music grads singer/songwriter Justin Tranter, bassist Cole Whittle, guitarist Aaron Lee Tasjan, and drummer Dan Crean. A year later, Semi Precious Weapons released their full-length independent debut, We Love You, featuring production from both Tony Visconti (David Bowie) and Mario McNulty (T. Rex). In 2008, We Love You was released nationally on Razor & Tie. Also around this time, Tasjan was replaced by guitarist and former Berklee graduate Stevy Pyne. In 2010, Semi Precious Weapons released their sophomore album, You Love You, on Geffen and garnered an even wider audience opening for pop diva Lady Gaga on her Monster Ball tour (Gaga and Semi Precious Weapons were friendly in the N.Y.C. club scene prior to Gaga breaking big). Two years later, following the end of the Monster Ball tour, the band relocated to Los Angeles to begin working on new material. Aviation, the band's third studio album, featuring production from Tricky Stewart (Beyoncé, Rihanna, Frank Ocean), was released in April 2014. .
